All We Need Is Love
Photo: Benjamin Earwicker
We grow up hearing that love is a beautiful thing. You don’t have to look far to see love or people in love. Love is practically all around us! Among our friends, at work, at school, in the park, in a restaurant, on TV…love is everywhere.

I’m not ashamed to say that I didn’t date much in college or have a significant relationship while I was studying my life away. It wasn’t until two years ago that I fell into a wonderful relationship and fell in love.

Love is a great thing. But it’s also a tough thing to come by. I remember the days I would think…is it ever gonna happen to me? The days that I would sit with my friends, in Starbucks contemplating our singleness and wondering if God really had someone in store for us. Wondering if we’d EVER have the opportunity to feel loved by someone other than our parents and friends.

God's Timing is Perfect

It can be a lonely time when you feel you’re ready to find your life-long mate, get married, settle down and have kids…white picket fence and all. And you feel God isn’t listening. Through it all, through the lonely times, God is there hearing our prayers, constantly reminding us how much He loves US. At times we take it for granted. At times we get angry and impatient. But what I’ve learned in my life is that God’s timing is perfect. And like what it says in 1 Corinthians 13:

"Love never gives up.

Love cares more for others than for self.

Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.

Love doesn't strut,

Doesn't have a swelled head,

Doesn't force itself on others,

Isn't always "me first,"

Doesn't fly off the handle,

Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,

Doesn't revel when others grovel,

Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,

Puts up with anything,

Trusts God always,

Always looks for the best,

Never looks back,

But keeps going to the end."

So if you feel that you’ve given up on love…DON’T. Realize that true love NEVER gives up, it keeps going to the end, and it ALWAYS trusts God. Be patient. Enjoy every phase in your life. And somewhere, sometime, all of a sudden you’ll find that God will surprise you (like He surprised me), not only with His amazing love that can fill every void we have, but with exactly the kind of love we all need…the one that never gives up on us…the kind of love that was searching for us all along.
